For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
On the 16th (Wed), tour the pleasant surroundings at Caracas Beach.

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Thu): stroll through Steps Beach, stroll through Crashboat Beach, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Playa Rompe Olas. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 18th (Fri): stroll through Salt Flats and Wildlife Refuge.

Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. Your day by day itinerary now includes La Guancha. Start off your visit on the 19th (Sat): take in the waterfront at La Guancha. On your second day here, kick back and relax at Playa Rosada and then look for gifts at Plaza del Caribe.

Drive from Rincon to Ponce in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car, flight, and shuttle. Traveling from Rincon in January, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be little chillier in Ponce, with lows of 69°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 21st (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Vega Baja.
