Fewer than 400 people call Keystone home year-round, but the population explodes in summer when crowds flock to nearby Mount Rushmore.

Custer

Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
On the 24th (Wed), get a new perspective on nature at Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, trek along Elk Mountain Nature Trail, then explore and take pictures at Wildlife Loop Road, and finally explore and take pictures at Iron Mountain Road. On your second day here, take a peaceful walk through Black Hills National Forest, take in the exciting artwork at Insideout, then take in the dramatic natural features at Needles Eye Tunnel, and finally contemplate the waterfront views at Sylvan Lake.
