Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Kick off your visit on the 1st (Mon): contemplate the long history of Peter Norbeck Visitors Center, then trot along with a tour on horseback, and then take in the awesome beauty at Harney Peak. Keep things going the next day: explore the activities along Legion Lake, then learn more about the world around you at The Museum @ Black Hills Institute, then get a new perspective on nature at Native American Educational and Cultural Center, and finally view the masterpieces at Art Expressions.
