Springfield is the capital of Illinois, but its real significance is as the hometown of Abraham Lincoln.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Edwards Place Historic Home and Dana-Thomas House. Get in touch with nature at Lincoln Home National Historic Site and Lincoln Memorial Garden. Change things up with these side-trips from Springfield: Lake Shelbyville (in Shelbyville), Bloomington (Constitution Trail & McLean County Museum of History) and Monticello Railway Museum (in Monticello). The adventure continues: get lost in a book at Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, gain insight at Rock Springs Conservation Area & Nature Center, explore the different monuments and memorials at Camp Butler National Cemetery, and examine the collection at Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum.

For where to stay, ratings, and other tourist information, refer to the Springfield day trip planning app .

In August, plan for daily highs up to 84°F, and evening lows to 64°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Sun) to allow time to travel back home.
