Traveling by bus from Dallas to Austin takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or fly. July in Austin sees daily highs of 98°F and lows of 75°F at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 15th (Mon) so you can go by car to Fredericksburg.

The city of Fredericksburg was settled by German immigrants in the mid-19th century, and has managed to retain its distinctly German charm.

On the 16th (Tue), learn about all things military at National Museum of the Pacific War, then look for gifts at Fischer & Wieser's Das Peach Haus, and then awaken your taste buds at some of the top wineries in the area.

Getting from Austin to Fredericksburg by car takes about 2 hours. Other options: take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. In July, Fredericksburg is a bit cooler than Austin - with highs of 93°F and lows of 70°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 16th (Tue) early enough to go by car to San Antonio.

As the state’s second largest city, San Antonio embodies Texas’ rich cultural heritage while maintaining the Old West charm of an oil town.

Attractions like SeaWorld San Antonio and Six Flags Fiesta Texas make great kid-friendly stops. Although urban sprawl remains synonymous with Houston, most of the city's tourist attractions lie within the relatively small downtown area, surrounded by diverse neighborhoods housing the nation's biggest African-American, Asian-American, and Latino communities.
