10 days in Traverse City & Michigan’s Eastern Upper Peninsula Itinerary

Traverse City might be well known for its huge cherry industry, but its position along Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan endows it with fine scenery and a wealth of outdoor attractions.

Mission Point Lighthouse has been added to your itinerary. Kick off your visit on the 8th (Sat): tee off at Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf, sample the fine beverages at Grand Traverse Distillery, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Clinch Park, and finally take a memorable tour with Tours. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take a stroll through Front Street, then visit a coastal fixture at Mission Point Lighthouse, and then do a tasting at Chateau Chantal Winery & Tasting Room.

South Bend to Traverse City is an approximately 4.5-hour car ride. You can also fly; or take a bus. In August in Traverse City, expect temperatures between 79°F during the day and 60°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Sun) early enough to drive to Saint Ignace.

Saint Ignace, usually written as St. Escape the urban bustle at Little Traverse Wheelway and Nancy Dagwell Campbell Park. Get out of town with these interesting Saint Ignace side-trips: Petoskey (Historic Gaslight District & Maple Moon Sugarbush and Winery). And it doesn't end there: take in the views from Mackinac Bridge, wander the wide-open spaces of Deer Ranch, stroll around Bridge View Park, and get great views at Castle Rock.

Drive from Traverse City to Saint Ignace in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. When traveling from Traverse City in August, plan for a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Saint Ignace: temperatures range from 72°F by day to 59°F at night. You will leave for Newberry on the 13th (Thu).
