A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Timberline Lodge and Ski Area and Eastbank Esplanade will appeal to history buffs. Get a sense of the local culture at Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and Carlton Winemakers Studio. When in Portland, make a side trip to see Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, approximately 1h 50 min away. There's still lots to do: look for gifts at Powell's City of Books, snap pictures at St. Johns Bridge, see the interesting displays at Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and contemplate the long history of Pittock Mansion.
