Phoenix is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. Get out of town with these interesting Phoenix side-trips: Scottsdale (Taliesin West & McDowell Sonoran Preserve), Sleepy Dog Brewing Company (in Tempe) and Zelma Basha Salmeri Gallery (in Chandler). And it doesn't end there: see the interesting displays at Musical Instrument Museum, identify plant and animal life at Boyce Thompson Arboretum, take in nature's colorful creations at Desert Botanical Garden, and push the limits with an extreme tour.

Start off your visit on the 20th (Sat): look for gifts at Trailhead Tea, cruise along Red Rock Scenic Byway (SR 179), and then take in the dramatic natural features at Cathedral Rock. On the 21st (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the exciting artwork at Exposures International Gallery of Fine Art, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Chapel of the Holy Cross, then take in the dramatic natural features at Bell Rock, and finally relax and rejuvenate at some of the top local wellness centers.

You can drive from Phoenix to Sedona in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and taxi; or take a shuttle. Traveling from Phoenix in April, things will get a bit cooler in Sedona: highs are around 72°F and lows about 48°F. On the 22nd (Mon), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Grand Canyon National Park.

Go for a jaunt from Las Vegas to Boulder City to see Hoover Dam about 50 minutes away. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 1 hour traveling from Grand Canyon National Park to Las Vegas.
