A tiny town with big tourist appeal, Pigeon Forge bills itself as the "Center of Fun in the Smokies." Just a short drive from the national park protecting the diverse plant and animal life of the Great Smoky Mountains, the town features numerous places to visit, such as bars, restaurants, cafes, theaters, and shops.
Kids will enjoy Titanic Museum Attraction and Frozen Head State Park. Visiting Cades Cove and High Ground Park & River Bluff Wildlife Area will get you outdoors. There's still lots to do: shop like a local with The Old Mill and sample the fine beverages at Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine.

You can do a combination of flight and taxi from Memphis to Pigeon Forge in 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and car. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Memphis to Pigeon Forge. Traveling from Memphis in October, Pigeon Forge is little chillier at night with lows of 51°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to Gatlinburg.

For shopping fun, head to Fowler's Clay Works or Paul Murray Gallery. Bring the kids along to Roaring Fork and Quiet Walkways. Go for a jaunt from Gatlinburg to Great Smoky Mountains National Park to see Clingmans Dome about 48 minutes away.
