Springdale — 2 nights

Located just outside Zion National Park, Springdale's 600 residents welcome thousands of visitors a year to their tiny town.
Start off your visit on the 26th (Fri): see exotic creatures in open habitats at Zion Jeep Tours and then explore and take pictures at Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway. Keep things going the next day: trek along The Narrows.

Pittsburgh to Springdale is an approximately 10.5-hour combination of flight and shuttle. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and taxi. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Mountain Standard Time (MST), which is usually a -2 hour difference. Traveling from Pittsburgh in August, expect nights in Springdale to be little chillier, around 54°F, while days are a bit warmer, around 90°F. On the 28th (Sun), you're off to Page.

Page — 2 nights

Originally little more than a simple camp constructed to house workers who built a nearby dam on the Colorado River, Page is now a popular stop for travelers preparing a trip to Arizona's canyon country.
On the 28th (Sun), take in the views from Navajo Bridge. On the next day, take in breathtaking views at Antelope Canyon, hit the best photo ops around with an inspiring photography tour, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas.

Traveling by combination of taxi and shuttle from Springdale to Page takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a shuttle. Plan for somewhat warmer nights when traveling from Springdale in August since evenings lows in Page dip to 69°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Tue) early enough to drive to Moab.

The gateway to Utah's popular canyon country, Moab sits engulfed in the middle of desert wilderness.
Get in touch with nature at Arches National Park and Off-Road Tours. Attractions like River Rafting & Tubing and Climbing Tours make great kid-friendly stops. There's still lots to do: skim along the rocks with a canyoning and rapelling tour.

You can drive from Page to Moab in 5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of shuttle, bus, and car. Traveling from Page in August, Moab is little chillier at night with lows of 63°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Fri) to allow enough time to fly to Vail.

Vail — 2 nights

Originally built as a base for Vail Ski Resort, the town of Vail has blossomed into its own destination, but still has less than 6,000 permanent residents.
On the 3rd (Sat), go for a walk through Vail Pass Path and then stroll through Vail Recreation Path.

You can fly from Moab to Vail in 3 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of car and bus. When traveling from Moab in September, plan for cooler days in Vail, with highs around 58°F, while nights are little chillier with lows around 43°F. On the 4th (Sun), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
