Founded in 1859 as part of the Gold Rush in the Rockies, Breckenridge boasts a main street lined with colorful wooden storefronts housing cafes and shops, giving the effect of a thriving western town from the 19th century.
Visiting Winter Park Resort and Summit Lake Park will get you outdoors. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Breckenridge: Thermal Spas (in Glenwood Springs), Vail Mountain Resort (in Vail) and South Park City Museum (in Fairplay). There's still lots to do: sample the tasty concoctions at Broken Compass Brewery & Tap House, hit the slopes at Blue River Sports, sample the fine beverages at Breckenridge Distillery, and play a few rounds at Breckenridge Golf Club.
