Founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement on the high ground between two rivers, Williamsburg served as a colonial capital of Virginia for over 80 years.
Kick off your visit on the 17th (Thu): take a tour of Jamestown Settlement, contemplate the long history of Historic Jamestowne, steep yourself in history at George Wythe House, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, and finally steep yourself in history at Governor's Palace. On the 20th (Sun), appreciate the extensive heritage of Tomb of the Unknowns, then learn about all things military at National Museum of the Marine Corps, then make a trip to John F. Kennedy Grave Site, and finally steep yourself in history at Arlington National Cemetery. On the next day, admire the landmark architecture of George Washington's Mount Vernon, wander the streets of Old Town, then appreciate the history behind U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, and finally appreciate the history behind Pentagon Memorial.
