The City and Borough of Sitka, formerly Novo-Arkhangelsk, or New Archangel under Russian rule, is a unified city-borough located on Baranof Island and the southern half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean (part of the Alaska Panhandle), in the U.S. Start off your visit on the 6th (Thu): step into the grandiose world of Baranof Castle State Historical Site, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. Michael's Cathedral, then see the interesting displays at Sheldon Jackson Museum, and finally admire the striking features of Russian Bishop's House.

The Municipality and Borough of Skagway is a first-class borough in Alaska on the Alaska Panhandle. On the 7th (Fri), get a taste of the local shopping with BearHead Photography Gallery, get engrossed in the history at Skagway Museum and Archives, trek along Lower Dewey Lake Hiking Trail, don't miss a visit to Arctic Brotherhood Camp No. 1, then steep yourself in history at Moore Cabin, and finally look for gifts at Skagway Alaska Downtown. You can fly from Sitka to Skagway in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry. In August in Skagway, expect temperatures between 65°F during the day and 53°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sat) to allow enough time to ride a ferry to Haines.
