One of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country, Tucson is a city on a cultural crossroads, with European, Native American, Mexican, and Asian residents blending and sometimes conflicting with one another.
Step off the beaten path and head to Gates Pass and Tucson Botanical Gardens. There's lots more to do: get a new perspective on nature at Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mission San Xavier del Bac, admire the majestic nature at Catalina State Park, and stroll around Tohono Chul.

Town Too Tough to Die

Founded in 1877 as a mining camp, Tombstone became one of the most storied towns of the "Wild West." As one of the last frontier boomtowns in the United States, Tombstone prospered between 1880 and 1890, attracting cattle rustlers and outlaws.
Kick off your visit on the 24th (Sun): examine the collection at Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum, get engrossed in the history at The Muheim Heritage House Museum, then discover the riches below the earth's surface at Queen Mine Tour, and finally make a trip to Bird Cage Theatre. On the 25th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: examine the collection at Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park and then Head underground at Kartchner Caverns State Park.

Traveling by car from Tucson to Tombstone takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and taxi; or do a combination of train and taxi. Traveling from Tucson in January, things will get little chillier in Tombstone: highs are around 18°C and lows about 2°C. Red Rock Country

Despite its relatively small size, Sedona overflows with tourist appeal.
Kick off your visit on the 26th (Tue): browse the different shops at Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, trek along West Fork Oak Creek Trail, and then trek along Broken Arrow Trail. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: identify plant and animal life at Red Rock State Park, then admire the masterpieces at Arizona Copper Art Museum, then delve into the distant past at Tuzigoot National Monument, and finally wander the streets of Historic Old Town Cottonwood.

When traveling from Tombstone in January, plan for little chillier days in Sedona, with highs around 14°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 3°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 27th (Wed) so you can go by car to Phoenix.
