Beaufort is a city in and the county seat of Beaufort County, South Carolina, United States. Kick off your visit on the 23rd (Fri): take in the architecture and atmosphere at Tabernacle Baptist Church, settle in for a delightful tour with a horse-drawn carriage tour, then examine the collection at Pat Conroy Literary Center, then don't miss a visit to Charles Street Gallery, and finally get to know the fascinating history of The Point. Carthage is a town in and the county seat of Smith County, Tennessee, United States; it is part of the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Explore Carthage's surroundings by going to Dale Hollow Golf Course (in Burkesville), McMinnville (Falcon Rest Mansion & Gardens & Cumberland Caverns) and Appalachian Center for Craft (in Smithville). You can drive from Beaufort to Carthage in 8.5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of car and flight. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Central Standard Time (CST) is minus 1 hour. In December, Carthage is little chillier than Beaufort - with highs of 52°F and lows of 33°F. On the 27th (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel to Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge is the capital of the U.S. state of Louisiana and its second-largest city. Get out of town with these interesting Baton Rouge side-trips: Houmas House and Gardens (in Darrow), Vacherie (St. Joseph Plantation, Laura: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site, &more) and Nottoway Plantation (in White Castle). You can drive from Carthage to Baton Rouge in 9.5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of car and flight. Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from Carthage in December, with highs in Baton Rouge at 66°F and lows at 46°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Sun) so you can fly to Beaufort.
