A rapidly growing city in central North Carolina, Charlotte is the state's largest urban center and a major regional hub for finance, industry, technology, and entertainment.
Korner's Folly and Kings Mountain National Military Park will appeal to history buffs. Museum-lovers will appreciate The Schiele Museum of Natural History and Children's Museum of Winston-Salem. Change things up with these side-trips from Charlotte: Richard Childress Racing (in Welcome), Cowpens National Battlefield (in Chesnee) and Seagrove Creations Pottery Gallery (in Seagrove). There's still lots to do: immerse yourself in nature at Morrow Mountain State Park, wander the streets of SouthPark, get some fabulous bargains at Charlotte Premium Outlets, and engage your brain at Discovery Place Science.

Ocracoke is a census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated town located at the southern end of Ocracoke Island, located entirely within Hyde County, North Carolina. On the 23rd (Tue), visit a coastal fixture at Ocracoke Lighthouse, get engrossed in the history at Ocracoke Preservation Museum, then take some stellar pictures from Outer Banks National Scenic Byway, and finally kick back and relax at Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: enjoy the sand and surf at Ocracoke Beach Fires, then look for gifts at Books to Be Red, and then stroll through Ocracoke Beach.

You can do a combination of car and ferry from Charlotte to Ocracoke in 9.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of flight, bus, taxi, and ferry; or do a combination of train, bus, car, and ferry. In July, daily temperatures in Ocracoke can reach 35°C, while at night they dip to 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 25th (Thu) to allow time for travel back home.
