Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
On the 1st (Mon), examine the collection at Durango Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Museum.

Newark to Durango is an approximately 9-hour flight. You can also drive. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 2 hours traveling from Newark to Durango. Traveling from Newark in April, expect little chillier with lows of 28°F in Durango. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 2nd (Tue) to allow time to drive to Mesa Verde National Park.

Traveling by car from Durango to Mesa Verde National Park takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and taxi; or do a combination of shuttle and taxi. In April, plan for daily highs up to 65°F, and evening lows to 29°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Wed) so you can travel to Estes Park.

Traveling from Mesa Verde National Park in April, plan for a bit warmer nights in Estes Park, with lows around 35°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Denver.

Aptly nicknamed the "Mile-High City," Denver sits at an altitude of 1,600 m (5,280 ft) above sea level, located right where the Great Plains give way to the Rocky Mountains.
Do your shopping at 16th Street Mall and Pearl Street Mall. You'll explore and learn at Denver Botanic Gardens and Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center. Expect slightly colder weather when traveling from Estes Park in April: highs in Denver hover around 59°F, while lows dip to 34°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Sun) early enough to take a bus to Colorado Springs.
