Although urban sprawl remains synonymous with Houston, most of the city's tourist attractions lie within the relatively small downtown area, surrounded by diverse neighborhoods housing the nation's biggest African-American, Asian-American, and Latino communities.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens and 1940 Air Terminal Museum. Visit Glenwood Cemetery and Sam Houston Park for their historical value. Venture out of the city with trips to Washington-on-the-Brazos (in Washington), H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum of Texas (in Huntsville) and Houston Premium Outlets (in Cypress). There's still lots to do: take an in-depth tour of McFaddin-Ward House Museum, see the interesting displays at Texas Quilt Museum, stroll through Memorial Park, and look for all kinds of wild species at Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge.

In December, daily temperatures in Houston can reach 66°F, while at night they dip to 50°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sun) to allow enough time to travel back home.
