Surrounded by mountain ranges, forests, valleys, beaches, and deserts, the metropolitan area of Los Angeles is home to over 17 million people.
Kids will enjoy Disneyland Park and Downtown Disney District. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Los Angeles: Anaheim (Disney California Adventure Park & Flightdeck Simulation Center). There's still lots to do: get in on the family fun at Universal Studios Hollywood, take in the waterfront at Santa Monica Pier, make a trip to Hollywood Walk of Fame, and see the sky in a new way at Griffith Observatory.

If you are flying in from Mexico, the closest major aiports are Los Angeles International Airport, John Wayne Airport-Orange County Airport, Ontario International Airport, San Bernardino International Airport and Edwards Air Force Base. In July, plan for daily highs up to 33°C, and evening lows to 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Fri) so you can drive to San Diego.

Divided into neighborhoods with distinct characters and cultural heritages, San Diego sits just north of the Mexican border and offers visitors a blend of tourist attractions, including a lively nightlife, diverse cuisine, and a thriving musical scene.
You've now added Balboa Park to your itinerary. Attractions like SeaWorld San Diego and San Diego Zoo make great kid-friendly stops. There's much more to do: see the interesting displays at USS Midway Museum, get a bird's-eye view with Air Tours, enjoy the sand and surf at Mission Beach Park, and appreciate the history behind Cabrillo National Monument.

Traveling by car from Los Angeles to San Diego takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or fly. Expect a bit cooler weather when traveling from Los Angeles in August: highs in San Diego hover around 30°C, while lows dip to 23°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Wed) so you can drive back home.
