The Forest City

Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
Get a sense of the local culture at Marginal Way Walkway and Ogunquit Museum of American Art. Get outdoors at Eastern Promenade Trail and Fishing Charters & Tours. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Portland: Wells (Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge & Wells Beach), Long Sands Beach (in York Beach) and Ocean Ave (in Kennebunkport).
