Lahaina — 6 nights

Crown Jewel of Maui

Once the booming capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom, the tropical paradise of Lahaina still remains one of Maui's top vacation attractions, providing both culture and recreation.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Shark Diving and O'o Farm. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lahaina: Kamaole Beach Park II (in Kihei), Wailea (Keawakapu Beach, Ulua Beach, &more) and Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery (in Kula). The adventure continues: kick back and relax at Ka'anapali Beach, stroll around Lahaina Banyan Court, stroll through Kahekili Beach Park, and relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas.

For maps, ratings, reviews, and other tourist information, read our Lahaina road trip tool.

New York City to Lahaina is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time to Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time is minus 5 hours. Traveling from New York City in September, things will get a bit warmer in Lahaina: highs are around 86°F and lows about 74°F. Hana — 4 nights

Hana is one of the most isolated communities in Hawaii, with a permanent population of just over 1,000 people.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Off-Road Tours and Laura Mango. Change things up with a short trip to Haleakala Crater in Haleakala National Park (about 54 minutes away). Spend the 29th (Thu) exploring the striking scenery along Hana Highway - Road to Hana. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Red Sand Beach - Kaihalulu Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Pipiwai Trail, and identify plant and animal life at Pools at Ohe'o.

For ratings, other places to visit, and tourist information, use the Hana sightseeing planner.

The Valley Isle
The second largest of the eight major Hawaiian Islands, Maui features a rugged landscape ranging from high mountain peaks to deep valleys. Half of Maui lies within 8 km (5 mi) of the coastline, and most tourists come for the sandy beaches, many of them backed by fashionable resorts offering every modern convenience. Diversity of tourist attractions is Maui's major allure, with each of the island's shores offering a different set of vacation ideas. You can swim with dolphins, snorkel with sea turtles, or hike over the otherworldly landscapes of the world's biggest dormant volcano. A foodie paradise, the island also features dozens of small farms and gourmet restaurants.
