Once the seat of a thriving tobacco industry, Durham has seen some significant moments in American history.
Do some cultural sightseeing at North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and Duke University Chapel. Step out of Durham to go to Raleigh and see North Hills, which is approximately 38 minutes away. There's lots more to do: visit Golden Belt Historic District, let the kids burn off some steam at Durham Central Park, take in nature's colorful creations at Sarah P. Duke Gardens, and see the interesting displays at Museum of Life + Science.
