Gateway to the Black Hills

South Dakota's second-largest city, Rapid City has for many years served as a gateway to the West.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like South Dakota Air and Space Museum and The Museum @ Black Hills Institute. Visiting Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Deadwood Trailhead George S. Mickelson Trail will get you outdoors. Venture out of the city with trips to Deadwood (Days of '76 Museum, Adams Museum, &more). There's much more to do: get your game on at Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf, examine the collection at National Presidential Wax Museum, learn about winemaking at Firehouse Wine Cellars, and putt your heart out at Holy Terror Mini Golf.

Charlotte to Rapid City is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Mountain Standard Time (MST) is minus 2 hours. Traveling from Charlotte in July, things will get a bit cooler in Rapid City: highs are around 85°F and lows about 62°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Sat) early enough to travel to Cody.

Preferred Gateway to Yellowstone

A genuine cowboy city, Cody is famous for its nightly rodeos and its proximity to the protected wilderness areas of the world's first national park, now designated as one of the country's World Heritage Sites.
On the 2nd (Sun), take an in-depth tour of Buffalo Bill Center of the West, learn more about the world around you at Draper Natural History Museum, and then take in the dramatic scenery at The Buffalo Bill Reservoir.

World's Largest Collection of Geysers

An exceptionally diverse landscape and varied wildlife have made Yellowstone National Park one of America's most popular parks.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like West Thumb Geyser Basin and Black Sand Basin. Visiting Old Faithful and Upper Geyser Basin will get you outdoors. Traveling by car from Cody to Yellowstone National Park takes 2.5 hours. Traveling from Cody in August, expect Yellowstone National Park to be little chillier, temps between 70°F and 38°F. You will have some time to spend on the 8th (Sat) before leaving for home.
