Originally built as a base for Vail Ski Resort, the town of Vail has blossomed into its own destination, but still has less than 6,000 permanent residents.
Start off your visit on the 4th (Fri): go for a walk through Vail Pass Path and then admire the natural beauty at Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. Aptly nicknamed the "Mile-High City," Denver sits at an altitude of 1,600 m (5,280 ft) above sea level, located right where the Great Plains give way to the Rocky Mountains.
On the 9th (Wed), see the interesting displays at National Ballpark Museum, then wander the streets of 16th Street Mall, and then browse the exhibits of Denver Botanic Gardens.
