Kick off your visit on the 18th (Sat): contemplate the waterfront views at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, then enjoy the sand and surf at Waikiki Beach, and then browse the exhibits of USS Arizona Memorial. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the dramatic scenery at Manoa Falls, browse the different shops at Ala Moana Center, then take in the pleasant sights at Diamond Head State Monument, and finally discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

Do a combination of bus, flight, and taxi from Kahului to Kailua-Kona in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight; or do a combination of car and flight. In January in Kailua-Kona, expect temperatures between 80°F during the day and 67°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Wed) early enough to drive to Hilo.

One of the island of Hawaii's major towns, Hilo contains a mix of Asian and Polynesian cultures and is known for its proximity to a national park encompassing two active volcanoes.
