The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Start off your visit on the 14th (Sun): take in the spiritual surroundings of Washington National Cathedral and then contemplate the waterfront views at Tidal Basin. Keep things going the next day: get a new perspective on nature at Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, then see the interesting displays at National Air and Space Museum, then get to know the fascinating history of The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and finally appreciate the history behind Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

A major center for tourism and travel, Baltimore is famous as the city where amateur poet Francis Scott Key wrote the lyrics for the United States' national anthem.
Step out of the city life by going to Devils Den and Fort McHenry National Monument. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Gettysburg National Military Park and Little Round Top. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Baltimore: Northern Extension of the Heritage Rail Trail (in York), Betterton Beach (in Betterton) and Gettysburg (Horseback Riding Tours, The Eternal Light Peace Memorial, & more).
