Syracuse to Anchorage is an approximately 13-hour flight. You can also drive. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Alaska Standard Time (AKST) is minus 4 hours. Traveling from Syracuse in August, expect Anchorage to be little chillier, temps between 66°F and 53°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Thu) so you can go by car to Whittier.

For most visitors to this part of the world, the wild part of Alaska starts at Seward, a small port city that takes advantage of the region's natural beauty.
On the 5th (Sat), spend an adventurous day with a kayaking and canoeing tour. Spend the 6th (Sun) exploring nature at Kenai Fjords National Park Visitor Center. There's still lots to do: get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Alaska SeaLife Center and contemplate the waterfront views at Resurrection Bay.
