Badlands National Park — 2 nights

Start off your visit on the 17th (Sun): hike along Castle Trail, take in the dramatic natural features at Badlands Wall, and then admire all the interesting features of Loop Road. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 18th (Mon): take in the dramatic natural features at Conata Basin Overlook, then take in the dramatic natural features at Homestead Overlook, and then get great views at Pinnacles Overlook.

On the 19th (Tue), contemplate the waterfront views at Legion Lake, then contemplate the waterfront views at Center Lake, then immerse yourself in nature at Custer State Park, and finally see Off-Road Tours. On the next day, take a memorable drive along Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway, then explore the activities along Stockade Lake, and then see the interesting displays at Custer County 1881 Courthouse.

Getting from Badlands National Park to Custer by car takes about 2 hours. Other options: do a combination of taxi and bus. In July, Custer is little chillier than Badlands National Park - with highs of 80°F and lows of 53°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 21st (Thu) so you can drive to Keystone.

Keystone — 7 nights

Home Of Mount Rushmore

Let the collections at National Presidential Wax Museum and Gutzon Borglum Historical Center capture your imagination. Attractions like Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Devil’s Bathtub make great kid-friendly stops. Get out of town with these interesting Keystone side-trips: Roughlock Falls Nature Area (in Savoy), Pactola Lake (in Silver City) and Wonderland Caves (in Nemo). Pack the 24th (Sun) with family-friendly diversions at Rushmore Tramway Adventures. There's lots more to do: learn more about the world around you at The Museum @ Black Hills Institute, trek along Presidential Trail, shop like a local with Dahl's Chainsaw Art, and explore the activities along Horse Thief Lake.
