A Wondrous Diversity of Life

Great Smoky Mountains National Park contains some of the highest mountains east of the Mississippi River, but it's the ease of access that makes this national park the United States' most visited.
Get in touch with nature at Cades Cove and Grotto Falls Parking. Step off the beaten path and head to Charlies Bunion and Sugarlands Valley Nature Trail. Venture out of the city with trips to Midnight Hole Falls (in Great Smoky Mountains National Park) and Fontana General Store (in Fontana Dam). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Walker Sisters' Cabin, contemplate the waterfront views at Townsend Wye, admire the sheer force of Hen Wallow Water Falls, and look for all kinds of wild species at Quiet Walkways.

To see where to stay, reviews, maps, and more tourist information, read our Great Smoky Mountains National Park trip maker tool.
