Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Take a break from the city and head to Point Lobos and Monterey Bay. For shopping fun, head to Carmel Art Association or Monterey's Tasty Olive Bar. Get out of town with these interesting Carmel side-trips: Big Sur (McWay Falls & Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park). There's still lots to do: see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour and tour the pleasant surroundings at Carmel River State Beach.
