Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Get some cultural insight at St. Columba Catholic Church and Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum. Explore hidden gems such as Purgatory Resort and Durango Snowbike Experience. There's still lots to do: fly down the slopes at Hesperus Ski Resort, view the masterpieces at Scenic Aperture Gallery, and enjoy some diversion at Durango Community Recreation Center.
