Durango — 11 nights

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Animas River and The Anasazi Heritage Center. Get out of town with these interesting Durango side-trips: Mesa Verde National Park (Mesa Verde National Park, Spruce Tree House, &more) and Canyons Of The Ancients Visitor Center & Museum (in Dolores). And it doesn't end there: whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, examine the collection at Durango Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Museum, do a tasting at Four Leaves Winery, and look for gifts at Honeyville.

To see photos, maps, more things to do, and more tourist information, refer to the Durango vacation planner.

In May, daytime highs in Durango are 68°F, while nighttime lows are 35°F.
