Springfield — 2 nights

Springfield is the capital of Illinois, but its real significance is as the hometown of Abraham Lincoln.
Get out of town with these interesting Springfield side-trips: Lincoln Heritage Museum (in Lincoln), Great Rivers Scenic Route (in Alton) and Children's Discovery Museum (in Normal). There's much more to do: get engrossed in the history at Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, steep yourself in history at Dana-Thomas House, and stroll through Lincoln Memorial Garden.
