Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
Visiting Ogunquit Beach and Perkins Cove will get you outdoors. Your inner history buff will appreciate Marginal Way Walkway and Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Take a break from Portland with a short trip to Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, about 1h 05 min away.
