Do a combination of flight, bus, and ferry from Dearborn to Mackinac Island in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and ferry; or do a combination of bus and ferry. In August, Mackinac Island is a bit cooler than Dearborn - with highs of 72°F and lows of 59°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Tue) so you can travel to Traverse City.

Traverse City might be well known for its huge cherry industry, but its position along Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan endows it with fine scenery and a wealth of outdoor attractions.
Get in touch with nature at The Ridges Sanctuary and Ludington State Park. Get a sense of the local culture at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Venture out of the city with trips to Colonial Michilimackinac (in Mackinaw City), Mackinac Bridge (in Saint Ignace) and Cave Point County Park (in Sturgeon Bay).

You can do a combination of ferry and bus from Mackinac Island to Traverse City in 4.5 hours. When traveling from Mackinac Island in August, plan for a bit warmer days in Traverse City, with highs around 79°F, while nights are about the same with lows around 60°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 17th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Grand Rapids.

The second largest city in Michigan and a hub of furniture manufacturing, Grand Rapids bears the nickname "Furniture City." However, the destination's original name came from the rapids of the Grand River that once ran through the downtown area.
Start off your visit on the 18th (Sun): tour the pleasant surroundings at Holland State Park Beach and then stroll through Oval Beach. Keep things going the next day: see the interesting displays at Gerald R. Ford Museum and then take in nature's colorful creations at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park.
