Traverse City might be well known for its huge cherry industry, but its position along Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan endows it with fine scenery and a wealth of outdoor attractions.
Visiting Pyramid Point Trail and Long Lake will get you outdoors. We've included these beaches for you: First Street Beach and Sunset Park. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Traverse City: Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse (in Manistee) and Blustone Vineyards (in Lake Leelanau). There's still lots to do: explore the activities along Grand Traverse Bay, learn about winemaking at Mari Vineyards, sample the fine beverages at Northern Latitudes Distillery, and take a leisurely stroll along Boardman River Boardwalk.

You can do a combination of ferry and bus from Mackinac Island to Traverse City in 4.5 hours. Traveling from Mackinac Island in July, expect nights in Traverse City to be about the same, around 59°F, while days are a bit warmer, around 80°F.
