For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Family-friendly places like Sun Bay Beach and Caracas Beach will thrill your kids. The adventure continues: kick back and relax at Media Luna Beach, take in the waterfront at Mosquito Pier, tour the pleasant surroundings at La Chiva, and stop by Isla Vida.

Traveling by combination of flight and car from Culebra to Isla de Vieques takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry. In July in Isla de Vieques, expect temperatures between 88°F during the day and 79°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Wed) so you can travel to El Yunque National Forest.
