Explore Taos' surroundings by going to Red River (Middlefork Lake & Mallette Park Nature Trail), John Dunn Bridge (in Arroyo Hondo) and Plaza Blanca (in Abiquiu). You can drive from Taos to Santa Fe in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Taos in September, expect somewhat warmer with lows of 52°F in Santa Fe. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 17th (Tue) so you can travel to Albuquerque.

Albuquerque remains one of the state's secret jewels, as its tourist attractions are often overshadowed by the more popular holiday destination of Santa Fe.
On the 18th (Wed), browse the exhibits of New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Capilla de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, and then Head underground at Bandelier National Monument. Keep things going the next day: tour the pleasant surroundings at Willow Creek Trail, let the kids burn off some steam at A Park Above, and then have fun and explore at Explora Science Center and Children's Museum of Albuquerque.

Traveling by bus from Santa Fe to Albuquerque takes an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. Expect somewhat warmer evenings in Albuquerque when traveling from Santa Fe in September, with lows around 60°F.
