Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Laura Plantation: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site and French Quarter. Royal Street and St. Louis Cathedral will appeal to history buffs. When in New Orleans, make a side trip to see Nature & Wildlife Tours in Slidell, approximately 48 minutes away. There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at The National WWII Museum, admire nature's wide array of creatures at Audubon Zoo, make a trip to Jackson Square, and stop by Boutique du Vampyre.

Although urban sprawl remains synonymous with Houston, most of the city's tourist attractions lie within the relatively small downtown area, surrounded by diverse neighborhoods housing the nation's biggest African-American, Asian-American, and Latino communities.
Explore hidden gems such as Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens. Head to Houston Premium Outlets and Katy Millsfor some retail therapy. Step out of Houston with an excursion to Old Town Spring in Spring--about 32 minutes away. There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Space Center Houston and get engrossed in the history at National Museum of Funeral History.

Visiting Carpinteria State Beach and Santa Monica Mountains will get you outdoors. Get a sense of the local culture at The Getty Center and Santa Monica Pier. Step out of Los Angeles to go to Anaheim and see Disneyland Park, which is approximately 30 minutes away.
