Located just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., the county of Arlington blends big city and sprawling suburban environments.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Arlington: George Washington's Mount Vernon (in Mount Vernon), Fort Hunt Park (in Alexandria) and Fair Oaks Mall (in Fairfax). Spend the 5th (Thu) exploring nature at Great Falls Park. Spend the 6th (Fri) exploring nature at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Arlington National Cemetery, step off the mainland to explore Theodore Roosevelt Island Park, take in the waterfront at Old Town Waterfront, and brush up on your military savvy at National Museum of the Marine Corps.
