The city of Hood River is the seat of Hood River County, Oregon, United States. Do some cultural sightseeing at Timberline Lodge and Ski Area and Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to Multnomah Falls (in Bridal Veil) and Fire Museum in City Hall (in The Dalles). The adventure continues: look for all kinds of wild species at Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, learn about winemaking at Springhouse Cellar, brush up on your military savvy at Fort Dalles Museum and Anderson Homestead, and examine the collection at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum.

Traveling from San Francisco in February, things will get a bit cooler in Hood River: highs are around 47°F and lows about 37°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 24th (Sun) early enough to drive to Astoria.

Spirit of the Columbia
Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Columbia River Maritime Museum and Shallon Winery. You'll get in some beach time at Haystack Rock and Cannon Beach. Take a break from Astoria with a short trip to Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach, about 50 minutes away. Spend the 27th (Wed) exploring nature at Fort Clatsop National Memorial. There's more to do: appreciate the history behind Astoria Column.

Traveling by car from Hood River to Astoria takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. In February, plan for daily highs up to 51°F, and evening lows to 39°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 27th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Portland.

A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Pittock Mansion and Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Do your shopping at Powell's City of Books and Northwest (Nob Hill). Venture out of the city with trips to Newberg (Adelsheim Vineyard & Bells Up Winery), Carlton Winemakers Studio (in Carlton) and Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum (in McMinnville). Drive from Astoria to Portland in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus, taxi, and train; or take a bus. In February in Portland, expect temperatures between 51°F during the day and 38°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Mon) to allow enough time to travel back home.
