With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Here are some ideas for day two: visit a coastal fixture at Culebrita Lighthouse, kick back and relax at Zoni Beach, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Tamarindo Beach.

New York City, USA to Culebra is an approximately 6.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight; or do a combination of flight, shuttle, and ferry. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from New York City to Culebra. Plan for a bit warmer nights when traveling from New York City in July since evenings lows in Culebra dip to 80°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel to Isla de Vieques.

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Puerto Ferro Lighthouse and Gallery Galleon. Kids will appreciate attractions like Sun Bay and Media Luna Beach. Next up on the itinerary: kick back and relax at Caracas Beach, stroll through La Chiva, take a memorable tour with Tours, and take in the exciting artwork at Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery.

Traveling by combination of flight and car from Culebra to Isla de Vieques takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry. Expect a daytime high around 88°F in July, and nighttime lows around 79°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel to Arecibo.

Arecibo is a municipality on the northern coast of Puerto Rico (U.S.), on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, located north of Utuado and Ciales; east of Hatillo; and west of Barceloneta and Florida. On the 17th (Wed), pause for some serene contemplation at Catedral San Felipe Apostol, explore and take pictures at Aventura Cueva Ventana, and then kick back and relax at Playa Mar Chiquita.

You can do a combination of flight, shuttle, and car from Isla de Vieques to Arecibo in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of flight and taxi. In July, daytime highs in Arecibo are 86°F, while nighttime lows are 76°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 17th (Wed) so you can go by car to San Juan.
