San Mateo is a city in San Mateo County, California, located in the high-tech enclave of Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area. Step out of the city life by going to Fitzgerald J V Marine Reserve and Cowell Ranch State Beach. Attractions like Half Moon Bay State Beach and Pescadero State Beach make great kid-friendly stops. Get out of town with these interesting San Mateo side-trips: Pomponio State Beach (in Half Moon Bay) and Thornton Beach State Park (in Daly City). There's lots more to do: kick back and relax at Pacifica State Beach, stroll through Dunes Beach, and hike along Sawyer Camp Trail.
