The largest city on the Mississippi River, Memphis bills itself as both the "Birthplace of Rock" and "Home of the Blues." With such a rich musical heritage, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Elvis Presley chose to live in Memphis during his later years.
On the 12th (Sat), make a trip to Graceland, then steep yourself in history at Sun Studio, and then pause for some photo ops at National Civil Rights Museum - Lorraine Motel. On the 13th (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, stop by Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid, admire the masterpieces at Withers Collection Museum & Gallery, then get to know the fascinating history of Beale Street, and finally contemplate the long history of The Peabody Ducks.

A tiny town with big tourist appeal, Pigeon Forge bills itself as the "Center of Fun in the Smokies." Just a short drive from the national park protecting the diverse plant and animal life of the Great Smoky Mountains, the town features numerous places to visit, such as bars, restaurants, cafes, theaters, and shops.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at The Old Mill and Old Forge Plaza. Escape the urban bustle at Cades Cove and Bald River Falls. There's much more to do: hike along Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, kick your exploration up a notch at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, get some fabulous bargains at Tanger Outlets Sevierville, and see the interesting displays at Titanic Museum Attraction.

Traveling by combination of flight and taxi from Memphis to Pigeon Forge takes 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and car. The time zone changes from Central Standard Time to Eastern Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. Plan for slightly colder nights when traveling from Memphis in October since evenings lows in Pigeon Forge dip to 51°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Wed) so you can drive to Gatlinburg.

Do some cultural sightseeing at Fowler's Clay Works and Paul Murray Gallery. Get outdoors at Roaring Fork and Alum Cave Trail. Step out of Gatlinburg with an excursion to Clingmans Dome in Great Smoky Mountains National Park--about 48 minutes away. Spend the 20th (Sun) exploring nature at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. And it doesn't end there: take in the awesome beauty at Mount LeConte, admire the sheer force of Ramsey Cascades, hike along Chimney Tops Trail, and stop by The Jewelry Spot.
