The Big Easy

Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Laura: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site and Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World will appeal to museum buffs. Take a break from the city and head to Ultimate Swamp Adventures and Old River Road Plantation Adventure. Take a break from New Orleans with a short trip to Whitney Plantation in Wallace, about 54 minutes away. The adventure continues: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Immaculate Conception Church, look for gifts at Boutique du Vampyre, admire the masterpieces at The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA, and stroll the grounds of Lafayette Cemetery No.1.

An old colonial city and a busy cruise ship port less than an hour's drive from Houston, Galveston sits on Galveston Island and serves as a popular vacation destination for both domestic and international travelers.

Sightseeing in Waco offers many possibilities in a medium-sized town on the Brazos River in central Texas.
On the 21st (Mon), examine the collection at Waco Mammoth National Monument, get to know the resident critters at Cameron Park Zoo, then examine the collection at Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, and finally take in the views from Waco Suspension Bridge.

You can drive from Galveston to Waco in 4.5 hours. Other options are to fly; or take a bus. Traveling from Galveston in June, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit cooler in Waco, with lows of 72°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Mon) to allow time to drive to San Antonio.
