Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains in Essex County, New York, United States. Venture out of the city with trips to Burlington (Waterfront Park, Burlington Bike Path, &more). Rochester to Lake Placid is an approximately 5.5-hour car ride. You can also fly; or do a combination of train and taxi. Traveling from Rochester in July, things will get slightly colder in Lake Placid: highs are around 76°F and lows about 51°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Thu) to allow time to drive to Lake George.

Queen of the American Lakes

A playground for America’s wealthy families, Lake George was nicknamed "Queen of the American Lakes." While these families often stayed in private country houses, a tourism industry built up around them in the early 20th century facilitated by two YMCAs.
Change things up with these side-trips from Lake George: Square Eddy Expeditions (in North Creek), Fort Ticonderoga (in Ticonderoga) and Saratoga Spa State Park (in Saratoga Springs). Traveling by car from Lake Placid to Lake George takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from Lake Placid in July, with highs in Lake George at 82°F and lows at 60°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Tue) early enough to go by car to Old Forge.

Old Forge is a hamlet (and census-designated place) on New York State Route 28 in the town of Webb in Herkimer County, New York. Old Forge is known for theme parks, winter sports, and nature. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: take in the awesome beauty at Bald Mountain, shop like a local with View Arts Center, sample the tasty concoctions at Fulton Chain Craft Brewery, and go for a stroll along the water at Rivett's Marine.
