Alamo — 9 nights

Alamo, located in the Rio Grande Valley in what is nicknamed the "Land of Two Summers," is a town known as "The Refuge to the Valley" in the irrigated area of southern Hidalgo County, Texas. Venture out of the city with trips to Countrywide RV Park (in Falfurrias) and Hilltop Gardens (in Lyford). There's much more to do: admire the majestic nature at Estero Llano Grande State Park, pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle, identify plant and animal life at Valley Nature Center, and stroll around Freddy Gonzalez Park.

As the state’s second largest city, San Antonio embodies Texas’ rich cultural heritage while maintaining the Old West charm of an oil town.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Mon): Head underground at Natural Bridge Caverns, then contemplate the long history of Mission San Jose, and then make a trip to Main Plaza. On the next day, pause for some serene contemplation at San Fernando De Bexar Cathedral, steep yourself in history at Texas State Capitol, and then take an in-depth tour of Bullock Texas State History Museum.

You can drive from Alamo to San Antonio in 4 hours. Plan for a bit cooler temperatures traveling from Alamo in December, with highs in San Antonio at 66°F and lows at 47°F. On the 9th (Wed), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive back home.
