Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Explore Custer's surroundings by going to Hot Springs (Mammoth Site of Hot Springs & The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary), Deadwood (Scott Jacobs Studio, Mount Moriah Cemetery, & more) and Keystone (Big Thunder Gold Mine, Presidential Trail, & more). There's lots more to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Sylvan Lake, appreciate the history behind Mount Rushmore National Memorial, admire all the interesting features of Needles Highway, and admire the majestic nature at Custer State Park.

In May, plan for daily highs up to 59°F, and evening lows to 37°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Mon) to allow time to travel back home.
