In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Waimea Bay and Laniakea Beach. Get outdoors at Kailua Beach Park and Kapiolani Regional Park. Get out of town with these interesting Honolulu side-trips: Haleiwa (Waimea Valley & Waimea Falls Park). Next up on the itinerary: discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, contemplate the long history of Battleship Missouri Memorial, appreciate the views at Nuuanu Pali Lookout, and admire the majestic nature at Puu Ualakaa State Park.

Sacramento to Honolulu is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, subway, and flight; or do a combination of train, subway, and flight. Traveling from Sacramento to Honolulu, you'll gain 2 hours due to the time zone difference. In January, Honolulu is much warmer than Sacramento - with highs of 80°F and lows of 66°F. On the 25th (Thu), take in the dramatic scenery at Halawa Falls and then enjoy the sand and surf at Kepuhi Beach. Get a sense of the local culture at Reeflections Fine Art Gallery and Lahaina Galleries. Bring the kids along to Kapalua Beach and Honolua Bay.
