Traverse City might be well known for its huge cherry industry, but its position along Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan endows it with fine scenery and a wealth of outdoor attractions.
Popular historic sites such as Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Old Mission Lighthouse are in your itinerary. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Traverse City: Cave Point County Park (in Sturgeon Bay), Mackinaw City (McGulpin Point Lighthouse & Historic Site & Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse) and Mackinac Bridge (in Saint Ignace). There's still lots to do: learn the secrets of beer at a beer tour and tasting, visit a coastal fixture at Cana Island Lighthouse, contemplate the long history of Fishtown, and wander the streets of Front Street.
